I would like my students to acquire sociological citizenship, connecting their knowledge of the discipline to their personal lives and community, making a real (tangible) contribution to their worlds.


I firmly believe that teaching can take place anywhere.
In my experience, some of the most important faculty-student interactions have taken place outside of the classroom space.
Inside and outside the classroom, however, I recognize that my position as a young, black, female professor is my daily opportunity to teach and mentor students by creating awareness, dispelling stereotypes, and challenging all students to broaden their horizons about what they can accomplish.
