JeffriAnne has built her career around a powerful question: What becomes possible when institutions are designed to help people fully belong, contribute, and thrive? A sociologist, scholar, and executive leader, she has spent more than two decades turning bold ideas about equity, leadership, and human potential into programs, strategies, and institutions that create lasting change. Today, she serves as Executive Director of the Center for DEI Innovation & Leadership, Associate Professor of Sociology, and a member of the executive leadership team at Oberlin College, where she leads institution-wide programming, research, and strategy focused on innovation, leadership, and institutional transformation.

At heart, Dr. Wilder is a sociologist, curious about how power, identity, and inequality shape our institutions, communities, and everyday lives. JeffriAnne’s scholarship spans race, gender, class, leadership, and institutional change, with particular attention to the experiences of Black women and communities of color. She is nationally recognized for her pioneering research on colorism, a subject she has studied for more than 25 years. Her book, Color Stories: Black Women and Colorism in the 21st Century (ABC-CLIO/Praeger, 2015), is a foundational contribution to the field and part of a larger body of work committed to making complex social realities visible, understandable, and possible to change.

For JeffriAnne, sociology has never belonged only inside the academy. A sought-after media commentator and public speaker, she translates research into accessible insight on race, gender, education, leadership, and contemporary culture. Her 2016 TEDx talk on race and self-definition has reached audiences around the world.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, JeffriAnne is the mother of two daughters–a role that keeps questions of belonging, opportunity, and institutional care close to home. Her commitment to working mothers, family-centered policy, and equity for mothers of color is both professional and deeply personal. That commitment also extends to advancing neuroinclusive schools and workplaces, rethinking the cultures, policies, and practices that determine whose ways of thinking, learning, and working are valued. She is also a devoted football fan who approaches game day with enthusiasm, analysis, and no shortage of strong opinions.
